Things to do in Kalkan

Kalkan is a place to relax, enjoy and wind down to the slower pace of life in Turkey.  There are many trips and activities that can be organised with agents in the town from ‘Jeep Safaris’ to Paragliding to ‘Deep Sea Diving’  but there is also a wide range of things to do within easy walking distance of the Mina apartment.  We list below some of the activities and things to do our guests have enjoyed.

 Lazy Day at Sea

Every morning at about 10.30 the gulets moored in the harbour set off for a Lazy Day at Sea.  You will be taken to a number of secluded coves where you can swim in the warm crystal clear turquoise sea, snorkels and flippers are generally available.

Depending on the wind direction you will be taken to the famous Kaputas Beach and ‘Blue cave’ and on to ‘Mouse Island’ with a mud bath for those that wish to freshen up their skin.  This is a  very relaxing day at sea with room to lay out, read a book, listen to your music,  sun bath and occasionally dip into the sea to cool down.

An excellent lunch is provided on board.   You can either arrange a private booking for you, your family and friends or just join in with other holiday makers.  You will be returned to the harbour at about 17.30 and a taxi can be ready waiting for you to return you to the Mina apartment.  It is advisable to book the boat of your choice, one evening a few days in advance as the popular boats are in demand.

Market Day ( Thursday )

Thursday is market day in Kalkan when the town fills with the villagers from the outlying hamlets.  There is a wide range of  ‘genuine’ fake watches, designer T shirts, Jeans and tourist gifts including Turkish delight and wonderful spices  etc on offer together with a large fresh vegetable and household goods section.  The market starts early in the morning as the stall holders erect their displays and sun shades.  Please note that it can get very hot during the prime summer months and it is recommended that you take a bottle of water with you, particularly if you intend to practice your haggling skills with the traders who are very keen to secure your custom.  The market is located a few paces from the Mina apartment, turn left up the main road towards the ‘Green School’ just by the mosque.

Water Activities

There is a wide variety of water activities available in Kalkan and you can either organise yourself or one of the beach clubs will make a call for you and you can be picked up from their deck.   Water skiing for the experienced or for those requiring lessons, Jet Ski, Ringo’s, Pedalo’s, Canoe’s and speed boats are all available for hire.
